On March 3, Jadzia and her Viper Bots teammates joined the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri for a STEM expo at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City.

This year, our elementary school introduced a new Girl Scouts robotics team.
I was asked if I might like to help out. I like programming and Legos, so I thought it sounded like it could be fun. I didn’t realize I would end up being the team’s coach. Before long I was receiving boxes from Lego in the mail.
Our great summer: Science and reading
This summer our kids had more science and library activities than ever before.
In June, Vogt Elementary held a weeklong “Scary Science” camp at the school. Each day there was a scary theme, like making a mummy or eating bugs. The girls were surprisingly thrilled to be eating crickets, insisting that I try one. “They’re good, they’re really good!” they both kept exclaiming.
Josie’s last day of preschool
Don Héctor and Doña Lucila arrived late last night, and rose early this morning. Our first day together had a busy itinerary.
Love burns
Jadzia brought home a bunch of cool artwork from school today, but this one struck me. It’s supposed to say “Love Birds”….
But you know what? “Love burns” is a maxim in the making.
Jadzia’s first Christmas program
Tonight Jadzia participated in the Vogt Elementary Christmas program. Here is her account of the night:
I liked singing on the risers. My songs were “’twas the night before Christmas,” “Ring those bells,” and “Hear those bells.”
I wore my new dress with a new sweater and a new hairstyle.
My Nanny and Grandpa came to the show.
I was on the top riser and I could see my family way in the back.

This morning I took Jadzia to her first day of kindergarten at Vogt Elementary in Ferguson. She was pretty excited about it. All went well — except I forgot to take her picture.

Jadzia’s first day of preschool

There is no doubt we have a smart little five-year-old (five as of yesterday, anyway).
From an early age she has shown a love of being read to, and now she has a love of reading and writing for herself. Sometimes her writings require an interpreter since she doesn’t use vowels, but still she impresses us frequently.
